GUEST POST FROM FLORA - DOES IT AFFECT WHAT TEAPOT IS USED TO PREPARE TEA?

Does it affect what Teapot is used to prepare Tea?

The teapot you use to prepare tea will affect taste. The type of tea you make also demands for specific teapot to use. The rate at which water cools depends on the type of teapot. For instance, if you want teas that will take longer steeping time like black tea and green tea, then you have to use teapot that resists cooling. If you want tea within short time, then you will prefer teapot that cools tea within short time.

Teapot made of cast iron is specifically good but it is expensive and heavy. This type will offer you with elements of efficiency. This type keeps heat and it spreads heat heavenly to contents inside. Iron material is good in preservation of heat and it will maintain your tea at high temperature for prolonged period of time. There is also a more ceramic material and porcelain material teapots which are also rated highly as insulators. These types are attractive and can improve appetite. People are always moved by external beauty. The attractive look of these types makes it possible to value the contents inside.

Traditions are manifestations of different cultures and so be with type of teapot. Some cultures value the type of teapot more than the contents inside. In this case, the type of teapot is upheld high with much adoration. In china for instance the material and appearance of teapot is something of great importance.  People prefer using different teapots made from different materials for different teas. Color is a manifestation of taste of the tea. Chinese culture prefers purple due to the use of iron-rich sand material.   Porcelain and glass teapots are preferred by most people because they imply decency. Glass teapots are preferred for green, flower and white tea. Porcelain and purple sand teapots are often preferred for black teas.

Checking whether the teapot is clean depends on color of the material used. Black tea can make darkish film from tannin in tea. This can affect the taste of tea thus iron teapot is preferred. Moreover, if you prefer green and subtle flavored tea, teapot made of glass material is the most preferable of all. Take for instance a situation where you put value on the material that will keep your tea as per the temperature you want but at the same time compromise on taste. Both temperature and taste are not taken to chances but reflect on the right material.

People prefer attractive teapot that gives them the impression of aroma when taking their tea. Flower teas in China are preferred when put in glass teapot. Glass teapots are preferred by most people because they make it possible to enjoy not only the aroma and taste but also watching on how that tea changes shapes while infusing in the glass.

Temperature of brewing tea is vital and thus materials that can maintain required temperatures are recommended. Different types of teas require different brewing temperatures. You need to prepare heat and type of teapot that will not cool the water as soon as it is added. Iron teapots are preferred because they maintain the temperature of water as required. The quantity of tea you want gives a clear indication of the size of teapot to use.

TEA CLOTHS

TEA CLOTHS

A tea towel/cloth is a cloth which is intended for the specific use of drying dishes, accessories and cutleries after wash. Clean tea towels are also used in Kungfu Tea Ceremony to spread over a tea tray before tea being put onto it. Alternatively, it may be used to cover a tea pot to prevent heat loss.

This item is small in size, but without including it in the ceremony may make it incomplete. If properly match with the function, it may add colour/significance to the tea ceremony.

There are several type of fabrics used for making tea tower/cloth. Linen is the conventional fiber used for tea towels. It is not only used to remove stains during or after preparation tea, but is also used to ensure a well balanced seasoning of a teapot or tray. This fabric is preferred because it helps to dry the delicate plates and silverware without the risk of scratching.

In general, tea towels are made with a simple weave, rather than a looped terry, with a hand towel size. Tea towels made from cotton are not uncommon. Moreover, a cotton tea towel tends to be much less costly, making it suitable for daily use.

In some cases, a tea towel is woven in a pattern and in other cases, it may be decorated with paint or embroidery.

A tea towel is usually kept spotlessly clean. This is because it is either used on freshly washed utensils or tray. When the tea towel becomes damp, it is hung up to dry. It will also be periodically washed for better sanitation. It is different from a dish rag, which is used to wash dishes and wipe counters. Some people prefer dish rags to sponges, since they can be frequently washed to cut down on bacteria.

Decorative tea towels are commonly sold as souvenirs. They are basically designed to be hung on a wall or displayed in a frame. These tea towels are from old fashioned hand embroidered linen to plain cotton tea towels with garish paintings of famous landmarks/poems.

Apart from being used for their intended purpose, they are also kept for ornamental rather than practical reasons. Travelers, especially, may bring back these tea towels for friends, or keep them as a memorial of the trip.

Tea towel is also relatively easy to make. Absorbent cotton or linen can be cut down to size and hemmed to prevent stray threads. Ambitious sewers can embroider the resulting tea towel, or leave it plain. Whether you buy them or make them, a stack of fresh tea towels is a useful thing to have in a kitchen, since they can be used to cover hot foods, dry dishes, and perform other kitchen tasks.

At time of writing this article, I am sipping on coffee. What are you sipping on this afternoon? You may use the tea towel for your tea time too.

Hope you do enjoy reading this article. Stay tune and more are in the pipelines for your reading pleasure.
