HO YAN HOR PART II

HO YAN HOR PART 2

Very happy Day, dear tea buddies
This year's durian season in Malaysia was blessed with abundance of durians as it is marked by the mushrooming of many stalls and trucks selling durians all over the place.
For the past couple of weeks, we had daily heavy rainfall and certain low areas were hit by flash flood. With this type of season, the durian eaters will have their happy time enjoying the king of the fruits with a relative lower price than the past couple of years.
The durian season will normally be with the weather of its typical season of being very hot and dry as durians would ripen whenever the weather is so hot like this.
During times like this, it is very common to find people down with illnesses such as sore throats and dry coughs, not to mention some headaches as well as sore gums or toothaches which are caused by the growing heatiness in their bodies. With the consumption of durian, which is very heaty in nature coupled with binging of leftover New Year cookies, and too much fried or roasted foodstuff, our bodies are easily susceptible to the compounded heatiness.
As usual, whenever I experience heatiness like this, I would reach for a bag of herbal tea called Ho Yan Hor which I had posted in my preceding post at the link below:-

http://teaartblog.blogspot.com/2012/12/ho-yan-hor-berbal-tea.html

A popular and effective tea that has been around for many decades.  When I was a kid, there was this van that would come to our neighbourhood once a month at night to promote and sell Ho Yan Hor tea packets, and it would have its loudspeakers blaring away in my neighbourhood.
I was made to understand that for those who are 40 years and above, their bodies cannot withstand the effects of herbal teas or remedies that are too cooling, but we can take Ho Yan Ho as it is mild, safe and effective to bring down our body’s overly heatiness.
For those of you that are experiencing heatiness due to either weather or wahtsoever reason, do try a cup of Ho Yan Hor tea and find out yourself whether it will sooth you or not. Even coughs arising from heatiness can be relieved with this tea.  Let us know your experience. If you like, you may get a box of Ho Yan Hor at home and drink it on a weekly basis to balance the heatiness in our bodies.
Append below please find a brief history and product information obtained from its company -
Applications: *
Helps to relieve heat, nausea, indigestion, and waning appetite. Use for the Common Cold, fever and flu. Also known to relieve headaches, hangovers, stomach flus and overall stress and burnout.
Trusted Tea for Generations…
The streets were no longer deserted when evenings came. People no longer had to be terrified of men in army suits. World War II had come to an end.
In the midst of the unsettled post-war period, while people were busy restoring buildings and businesses, houses and homes, this man in his 30`s, preferred to enjoy the tranquility which was taken away from his homeland when he came back to Malaya in 1941.
Having graduated from China`s Canton Wah Lam National Physicians School in 1941, he was then one of the very few young chaps who received tertiary education. Still young and not having the faintest idea about his next step in life after the war, he obliged to the request of a friend to bring into creation a blend of herbal tea for folks in town who were deprived of the wonders of Western medicines as a remedy for common ailments.
With his passion for herbs and the knowledge acquired, he embarked on a journey of discovery leading to a concoction of 24 kinds of herbs. Till today, Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea has remained a masterpiece of extraction. The meticulous extraction process of the 24 selected kinds of herbs bares every leaf of its nutritional and therapeutic assets! A class of its own, this novel process is repeated several times to ensure thorough extraction. The extract is then absorbed onto tea leaves, dried and packed into sachet tea bags for consumers` convenience. When taken, this all-natural extract enables immediate absorption of its goodness into the body. Today, the 60-year-old Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea remains a favourite among many and it is much sought after to relieve body heatiness, nausea, indigestion, and waning appetite.
Over a lapse of more than half a century, Dr. Ho Kai-Cheong`s humble herbal tea stall has grown to a modern manufacturing plant with WHO GMP status. Modernization has not deterred the house of Ho Yan Hor from bringing its ancient goodness to consumers of the 21st century. From formulation to processing, these have been carefully preserved over the decades. The modern manufacturing plant has not short-changed consumers of its invaluable goodness, but only adding to it hygiene and health.
More than a health heritage, Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea is truly an illustration of `when east meets west`. This aged-old concoction has managed to strike equilibrium between alternative medicines and mainstream medical approaches. With every cup of tea, come not only nutritional and therapeutic values, but heritage and history!

Hope you find it useful and helpful.

How about kicking off with my local tea :-

1.     Misai Kuching , Organic Herbal Tea

I can’t recall how I got it in the first place.  I only have one last tea bag and have no clue whether I have tried it before.

This tea bag contains 3 grams. It is very convenient and easy to brew. Just steep the tea sachet in hot water for 5 minutes. Just like other teas, it is best consumed when hot and unsweetened.

2.     Jasmine Premium Tea

This sumptuous Chinese green tea infused with night-blooming Jasmine produces a lingering floral fragrance and sublime taste.

Note: it has a life span of 2 years from the date of the production year. This packet is dated 2007 and I am not sure whether it is still in production or not.

3.     Eamomile Premium Tea – dark brown packet

This is a  selected Egyptian variety with high oil content. It is a traditional European favourite has distinguishing soothing fragrance and calming properties.

It is just like Jasmine Premium Tea, which comes with life span of two years from the date of production. This was produced in 2007 and I am also not sure whether it is still in production or not.

Here, I need some help from you guys especially those who have tried the above products to share with us your experience with the above teas and other information you are aware of.

In return, I will tell more information of other teas which are shown in the above photo. So, stay tune.

ICED TEA

ICED TEA

I still prefer hot tea than cold tea. No doubts some believe that tea of any temperature is great for the body. This means that iced tea is still as healthy as the regular hot tea.

However, I do agree that at times it is due to the practicability of the situation you are in. At times, I do admit that I too enjoy iced tea as well especially when I feel the weather is dry and hot. The above photo shows the drink I had recently at one of the cafe and I truly enjoyed it. I must say that this is a great relief to me just like many people who prefer drinking iced tea to hot tea, particularly during summer season.

Before I pen off, it is not a bad idea to embrace unlimited beliefs so as to open to all possibilities. After all, you tend to gain more exactly as prescribed, the more the merrier.

That's all and stay tune for more exciting articles.

TEA C SPECIAL

Very warm welcome to this life enriching blog.

Recently I came across the photo of "Tea C Special", which was so appealing when it was displayed on the table. I do not know why they named it such, despite it being more appropriately called as three layers tea. Dark tea at the bottom of the glass, milk in the middle, whereas the mixture of this two is at the top of the glass.

I tried and drank this tea several times in last couple of weeks whenever I have my lunch there. To me, it tasted well with rice, fried Koay Teow and Koay Teow soup. This may be due to the sweetness of the tea, which they had added sugar in it.

No wonder the poster of the tea comes with the slogan in mandarin as "Tea in mouth and Joy in heart." It describes well the significant joy this tea bring to human beings when you sip in this tea. I am not sure whether it is of western origin, as the way it prepares is more inclined to western style where milk and sugar are added in. Moreover, it was also added with ice cubes after it forms the three layers. To have clearer picture of it, I append a copy of its' photo for your viewing pleasure.

Only one size of the tea is sold and each glass costs RM 2.30. It appears to be reasonably priced. This is may be because the shop is from the outskirt of a Big town and is not very commonly found. If you come to this restaurant Maxis, opposite the Continental Workshop at Pekan Subang Perdana, please try it. If you have tasted, please don't forget to revert to us of your findings. Thanks for your feedback in advance.

If you find this article interesting, kindly direct your circle of friends to this blog.

Have a fruitful weekend.

WONDERFUL LUNCH AT TEA HOUSE IN PENANG

WARM WELCOME TO THIS TEA ART BLOG

In my preceding article, you may be aware of my recent fruitful trip back to my home town in Penang. As a result, several articles were written especially on Dr Sun Yet Sen's museum.  I had to run up and down taking photos of those interesting places I visited and to blog out at the end of the day. At the same time, I also collected some reading materials on those tourist areas which I have visited to promote my hometown, which was left far behind for the last couple of decades. Now, it is the time for me to pay back to the state I belong to.

With so much activities, yet I did not feel tired. From my face, you may feel that I have lots of energy to carry out other activities I planned much earlier. I even wrote till 4.00 am at several places, like McDonald (Hamilton road) and Papa Rich (EGate) in Penang and follow up with several of my former classmates and some new friends while I was surfing the net at that place.

With such a hectic time, I still managed to steal some time out from my busy schedule for my lunch at my usual Chinese tea house at QingHuan Chinese Tea House. See the photos below and find out what I had for my lunch. The photos taken after I have taken one Tea Egg and one of the little buns out of three in a set that I had ordered. Then only I became aware that I can take the photos for my tea blog.

That's the reason you don't have a chance to see the entire food range  I had for my lunch. Before I forget, I must let you know that one thing you should not miss at this tea house is its signature dish of lotus rice, rich in content with mushroom, pork, sausage and etc. Really delicious and this is one of the best lotus rice I have tried. Here, can someone tells me where to get the best lotus rice in PJ, KL or Penang?

Hope you like the above photos. Please record down in your diary and pay the tea house a visit whenever you have opportunity to do so. You can be rest assured that you won't regret it.

You may see that the environment is so pleasant and I can even work through out my lunch because I can't resist with so many inspirations flooding my mind that I do not have enough hands to write down all of them. In fact, all those articles you have read the last few days are the products from there and this one as well.

This is totally unexpected from my initial thought when I began my venture in the blogging sphere. At that time, I must confess that I was so worried that I ran out of ideas to write articles continuously. But today, what you see is totally different.

That's all for this time and seeing you again,

TONGKAT ALI TEA - A BOOSTER WITH LOTS OF BENEFITS

Hi! Folks,

Tongkat Ali, Eurycoma Longifolia Radix, is found in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. This plant has been used for centuries throughout these countries and is believed to strengthen the immune system, and has powerful anti-oxidative properties. It also has anti-viral and even anti-cancer properties.

This herb has been shown to have some effects against fighting both breast and lung cancer. As a result, it becomes popular and well received from all walks of life. And today it is not surprising that you can find Tongkat Ali Tea easily at normal “teh tarik” outlets.

I was made to understand that the bodybuilding community has taken a very serious interest in this herb, as it is believed to contribute to the building of muscle mass. The result of this study, carried in 2003, was published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine. This study showed that it can truly be a strong testosterone booster. This powerful enhancing herb has attracted lots of bodybuilders, who are looking for a safe, effective and legal edge for increasing muscle size and strength.

Historically, it has been believed that it has a significant effect on overall sexual performance apart from the benefits mentioned above. Its ability to increase sexual performance is directly tied to the herb’s stimulation of the production of testosterone. Recent animals studies also suggested it does indeed increase sexual performance. Animals given this herb did have an overall increased sexual response and performance. It is a powerful testosterone booster, sexual performance is boosted in a variety of ways, as follows:-

-More intense orgasms
-Stronger erections
-Dramatic boost in libido
-Increased semen volume

Another good news of this herb is that it is a safe herb for human consumption and has been substantiated by animal testing with rats. These wide-array of benefits, when combined with the herb’s safety record, make it an excellent choice if you’re looking to boost your testosterone levels naturally.

Because of its properties, today it is very common to find Malaysian drink Tongkat Ali tea. How about your country? Do tell us more if this tea is also available in your country or your experience.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you,

HISTORY OF TEA ART ASSOCIATION OF MALAYSIA

My Dearest Friends,

Today,we are going to touch on the history of how the tea shops/house begin in Malaysia. These tea shops/house in Malaysia began in the early seventies. Just about a dozen people from all walks of life, dedicated to the tea culture, began to promote tea culture in Malaysia. They allowed people of all ethnic groups from all over the country to enjoy quality tea by complying to the tea culture, which cultivates good values such as patience, concentration, harmony and a peaceful environment.

The Kuala Lumpur Tea Art Society, Malaysia was finally established and approved by the Registrar of  Societies Malaysia in early December 1998. This is the result of more than a year of planning and preparation and since then it started to grow.

Southern Chinese Tea Ceremony 3

The Mission of the Association is to promote the tea culture amongst Malaysians. They also constantly organise activities and programmes such as, tea pot art lectures and tea exchange programs both domestically and in foreign countries especially China to explore the concept of tea culture, tea art training and curriculum.

For those who have the passion to acquire this skills and knowledge are always encouraged to join this association.

For other parts of the world, you may join such association in your own country. They are more than happy to train any foreigners to acquire this skill and knowledge.

Here, we always believe that we can only progress through sharing.

Hope you find this article useful and meaningful.

COME AND TASTE "CHAM" AT OLD TOWN WHITE COFFEE OUTLETS

Hi! Folks,

This is my first week on road show to reach out to my local community. As usual, I stationed myself at Old Town White Coffee, just opposite the Kolej Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

Whilst deciding on what drink I am going to have, I spotted something New from this outlet, i.e. different from my routine. At last, I decided to go for "cham" or literally in Hokkein (Chinese Dialect) coffee mix with tea.

For the benefits of some of my readers, please allow me to brief you on this issue. In fact, this is not something new to me. It has been a popular drink during my teenage years. Sounds weird to some of you. I recalled when I gave my answer of "MIX" to those air stewards when they approached me for my drink. They were stunned and usually repeated their initial question. When I answered with "Mixture of coffee and tea." Guess what their next question, via comment? I will tell you then if you are keen to know.

It is a well known fact that both coffee and tea have their individual characteristics. Both these commodities are traded internationally. May anyone of you tell me how much the trade per day involves?

Initially I thought these products are competing with each other and I also cut down my coffee intake and substitute it with either tea or sky juice (plain water). However, after serious thought, I now changed my view and accept them as supplementing each other. No wonder this outlet introduce "Cham" and tea tarik (Pulled) to its regular customers. Well done, OldTown White Coffee outlets.

They brought new ideas, i.e non conventional way, to new beverage outlets so as to bring more benefits to its customers especially those who do not like routine drinks (like me). It also adds colours and variety to their lifestyle. This not only opens their mindsets, but also cultivates their creativity. Their evolvement over time well indicates this case in point. No wonder they are progressing and staying ahead.

Click the title of this article to access to its website.

Another interesting point to note is they are tied up with our local bank (CIMB), as their anchor bank to pool their expertise together to serve their customers even better. They seem to know that their customers have daily busy schedules and do not have time to enjoy good white coffee. As such, they sneak in and stationed at the bank branch to provide both the banker's customers and their own loyal customers this wonderful and tasteful drink so as to refresh themselves. This shows that they not only care for their customers, but also share their drink expertise with the people so as to make the world more enjoyable.

In this connection, we, at tea art blog, also come in to promote all their services to the population at large. We also look forward to collaborate with these two parties to bring more benefits to our readers.

So, stay tuned with us for more exciting stories to come...

See you then.

BOH Cameronian Gold Blend

Hi! Everyone,

Some of you may know that Boh tea is the most famous tea in Malaysia. One of its ranges of product is the BOH Cameronian Gold Blend. Some claimed that BOH sells one of the best black tea worldwide, but for some reason it is somewhat neglected other than its home land.

To refresh your memory, you may click at the title to access to my previous article on Boh Tea Plantation in Malaysia.
For those who require "oomph (kick) in their lives", you are strongly recommended to try this tea. Needless to say, it is far much better than junk drinks such as Coca Cola. Junk drinks appear to keep you alert under the oddest circumstances and have a rather short interval during which they provide stimulation.

I must confess that I drink coffees almost daily so as to maintain my energy level. I do not recall when I began to drink coffee, but I know it is at very young age i.e. during my childhood.

Green tea and black tea are different though; and a good cup of black tea can get you through almost 2 hours of work without interruption.

Give it a try and let us know how you find it. You may find this product at any major supermarket.

Have a sip of tea so as to enjoy your life.

TEH TARIK (PULLED TEA)

 Hi! everyone,

Teh tarik, literally pulled tea,  is a mixture of tea with condensed milk. This mixture is poured back and forth repeatedly between two vessels over a height, giving it a thick frothy top, kind of like cappuccino.

This process helps mix tea and condensed milk more thoroughly at the same time cooling its temperature. That's how it gets its name. This hot tea beverage can be commonly found in restaurants, and outdoor stalls in Malaysia and Singapore. It is popular amongst all walks of people.

Steven's tea garden, just opposite Toast Box at Mid Vally, a Mamak (Indian Muslim) restaurant chain claimed to be the “best teh tarik in the world!”. So, you have to pay RM 4.00 a glass, which is three to four times higher than other places. This world class beverage is considered very cheap if you compare with other world class beverage.

Occasionally, teh tarik competition are held, where brewers gather to show their skill, like the Chinese Kungfu tea ceremony. The ability to drag a long stream of tea well over their heads reallly amazes lots of people especially tourists. In the past, these brewers were dressed simply; wearing a white tee shirt, sarong and slippers.

Lately, teh tarik had been recognised as a beverage heritage of Malaysia by the Malaysian government.

TEA IN MALAYSIA

Dear loving readers,

No doubt that serving and drinking tea is very much a Chinese culture, not only in China but other parts of the world. This is especially true for those who still want to preserve this healthy and centuries old culture.

In Malaysia, you would not have much difficulty finding tea house in practically every corner of the country’s cities. For tea lovers, this is a place where people meet friends, exchange news about family members and also conduct business.

The Chinese tea ceremony is not a ritual as some may think. It is not related to any religion, but rather a ceremony. The whole exercise is concentrate on its taste and smell. The taste of the tea is compared to the previous tea through several rounds of drinking. The tea leaves can go for 8 to 10 rounds depending on the quality of the tea. Each round is said to have a different sensory exploration that is to be appreciated.

In the making of tea, what is most important is how it is infused. To add more colors to this, various type of tea utensil are used especially the tea pots. Tea pot comprises of various shape, color, size, different raw materials reflecting its style and its historical value.

Normally about three to five grams of tea are put in a cup with boiled water. The first cup is poured away and only subsequent cups of tea are drunk, but it does not apply to Pu'er. Tea drinking is said to help reduce weight, is good for the digestive system and will lower your cholesterol.

Basically, there are five main kinds of tea; categorized according to the techniques of making tea as follow:-

1. Longjing of Hangzhou,
2. Wulong from Fujian
3. Jasmine tea,
4. Black tea and
5. Compressed tea.

In Malaysia, we have our local tea plantation at Cameron Highland in Pahang State of the Peninsular Malaysia. It is the biggest tea plantation in Malaysia, there is even a small museum dedicated to it at the plantation.

Malaysia’s largest producer of premium black teas and the country’s No.1 preferred brand! To follow the website, please click at the title of the post.

Below is the brief description of the tea in Cameron Highland for your quick reference."

The black teas museum in Cameron Highland was opened in 1991, and is the only one of its kind in the country, that is dedicated to tea. Here visitors will be able to discover the impact of tea on the lives of various Chinese groups. On display are 300 kinds of tea along with information which traces the historical background and development of tea in China. Also within the museum is a research institute which often holds conferences on tea and tea culture.

Today, tea drinking has culminated into an art form that stresses on the types of tea, brewing and tasting of tea. There is a famous phrase in China,"ke lai jin cha" which means when a guest arrives, tea will be brewed. So don’t be surprised when you will be served with a cup of tea by your Chinese host.

Trust you enjoy it.

Cheers and have a lovely day,

James Oh
